The things I'm most afraid of....

I am a worry wort so I worry about everything. There is a difference between being scared, and worrying.
I'm scared of things that don't effect me in my day to day life.
Like I scared of sharks, scared of
Then there are things that I am scared of that do effect me in my day to day life.
Like getting cancer. I know it sounds dumb, and no it doesn't effect me everyday. But there are days that I think about that and my future and stuff. Breast cancer is in my family, so it's in my bones. It's scary.
Also being a bad parent. I have an amazing mother and an absent father. I'm scared that I'm not going to teach my future children the lessons they need to succeed. I will babysit kids and know, 'gosh I could not do this all day, twenty-four hours a day, forever. I think I'm too selfish in the fact that I love my me time and I love sleep.
That also brings me to another fear. I've said before, 'no I don't want children' and now that I'm getting older I think, 'well if it happens, it happens.' and I'm scared that five-ten years from now I'm going to really want children and not be able to have them. It would be myself to blame because all this time I didn't want them.

It's normal to have fears. We're human.
Some fears we create for ourself- like mine.
There has to come a point where we let those go.

What do I do?!....

Day 6 of Story of My Life challenge, What do you do?

I do a lot. My schedule is so crazy. Just saying. Instead of giving a paragraph description, I'm going to give you a day by day description.

Monday is class 12n-5:50p, work from 6p-11p
Tuesday is class 10:30-5:50p, work from 6p-11p
Wednesday is the same as Monday.
Thursday is the same as Tuesday, minus the work.
Friday is usually work 9:30a-4p
Saturday and Sunday is everything... editing, writing, homework, spending time with family, and napping!

Monday- Wednesday I work at health club. Friday's I work at a winery.

The thing that is scary to me is that all this is about to change. Summer classes and my last semester next fall, everything is changing.. needing a new job, needing a change. It's all scary.

In between all this I have to fight to find time for friends, myself, my family, and my boyfriend.

Derby Day! & Pie

It's Derby Day here in the Bluegrass State.. in My Old Kentucky Home!

Mint Juleps are being poured, drank, and poured again. I can't tell you if they are any good though- I've never had one.

I can tell you the winner of the race!

ORB! with jockey Joel Rosario.
5-1 making over $1.5million.

It was a little muddy.

Also, first female jockey,
Rosie Napravnik
(all photos courtesy of the Huff Post)

Along with the Derby festivities, I made a Derby Pie May Day Pie (the first one is trademarked and take affiance to anyone else using it). Thursday was pie day in the art building, so there were lots and lots of different pies. To prepare everyone for today's events, I picked this pie.
It's super easy, super delish, and my favorite.

Pie and handmade pie pan.
What ya need for the pie filling:
> 1 cup sugar
> 1/2 cup flour
> 2 eggs, beaten
> 1/2 cup melted butter
> 1 cup chopped walnuts
> 1 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
> 1 teaspoon vanilla
> pinch of salt

*Note! The real recipe calls for 2 tablespoons of Kentucky bourbon, but I've never added it.*
*Note! I usually use 1/2 walnuts AND 1/2 pecans.*

How to:
1. Combine flour, sugar, and salt in bowl.
2. Add eggs, butter to mix
3. Stir in nuts, chocolate chips, and vanilla (and bourbon if using).
4. Pour mix into piecrust
5. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes.
6. Cool before slicing.

Now for the crust. So simple and can be used for any pie really.

Pie Crust:
> 2 3/4 cup sifted all-purpose flour
> 1 teaspoon salt
> 1/2 cup vegetable oil
> 1/2 cup milk

How to:
1. Mix all with fork
2. Pat into ball
3. Roll out on lighty floured surface (or between two wax paper sheets)
4. Flip into pie pan

*Note! No need to spray pie pan. Crust has oil in it so it's not needed!*

It's pretty much like a big cookie pie. It's amazing. Very simple. Try it soon and get back to me on what you thing!

Hope you enjoy!

Happy Derby Day!

Favorite Quote!

Day 4 with Story of My Life: Favorite Quotes and why.

"Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect... It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections."

You know someone who always in a bad mood or every little thing ruins their days. And it's not like they've just had a bad day, they are always like that. I love this quote because I try to be happy and see the positive things in everything. Yes, when something bad happens to me, I get way down in the dumps, but the next day- after a good cry, a nap, and a shower- I am much better. Life isn't perfect, you can't expect it to be. That's what makes it interesting, ups and downs. You find out who your true friends are, how great the Lord is, and what to do in doubt.

"If you acted the way you wish you felt, soon you'll feel the way you act." -My Moma

My mother has told me this quote since I was a preteen. It's not saying, be fake or put on a front, it's saying stay positive! Act positive when time are low, and before long, you won't have to act anymore- it'll come natural. Act like you love everyone, and before long, you will love everyone. Moral of the quote, be nice, stay positive, and don't be mean.

Things That Make Me Uncomfortable...

Day 3 of Blog Everyday in May with Story of My Life.

There are many things that make me uncomfortable.

Along with Jenni, one includes things that happen in the bathroom. Last summer we were at a friends cookout, with lots of people, and even more food. There was this really awesome dip that I ate. Little did I know it had beef in it- which I haven't had in three years. It hurt my stomach so bad. You know when you try to hold it... you start to sweat, then get chills, then just want to pass out? Yeah that happened to me. I don't even like to talk about it with Michael. It was so uncomfortable.

Almost as much as that, I don't like to hear what people have to say about my work. I rather hear the negatives about it- how I can fix things, than the positives. I don't know why. I makes me nervous and blush when people like my work. I put so much effort, time, and sometimes blood, sweat, and tears into everything I make- which you would think it would make me so thrilled when people appreciate it, and I am thrilled, but I shut down when people say it. For example, during our critic this semester in Metals (you know what that is now, right?!), my professor was saying how proud and impressed she was with how much I've improved over the last few months. Several people were commenting on them, and I didn't know what to say! I need to get over it.

We are all human, everything isn't going to make feel comfortable.

What is Metalsmithing?

Day Two of the 'Blog Everyday in May' challenge with Story of my life.
Educate us on something you know a lot about!

I'm taking this opportunity to tell you all what a Metalsmithing is about. When people ask me what my major is and I say 'photography and metalsmithing' I always get the huh look, and question. It's technology called Jewelry and Metalsmithing.
We do a lot! We work with mainly silver, copper, or bronze. There is solider (a lot like welding) involved. Sometimes lots of hammering, and lots and lots and lots of sawing. If I had a nickel for every saw blade I've broken, I'd be on an island someone blogging- not in my metals studio!
There is casting of silver and bronze, stone setting, smithing- which is the lots of hammering part, dye forming, enameling, and granulation.

Most fav- enameling and granulation
Least fav- casting

As smithers/ jewelers, we make vessels, jewelry, body wear, anything really.

Here's how you do a basic piece:
You start out with a piece of metal and your sketch.
Easiest to sketch your design on the metal before sawing it out.
File file file.

Smith or texture the piece with some hammers or maybe a roll press.

Clean clean clean it. With a brass brush and soap, pumice, and 'the pickle' (a water/ powder mixture).
Get to solidering whatever you are going to add to it.
Clean it again.
And keep going from there.
The last step is the patina (coloring).
I seem to favor the Liver of Sulfer, which is turns copper black and silver a rainbowish/ blue color.

Most of my things are big, over sized necklaces. This last semester I've really started to think ahead for my BFA show (a gallery exhibit in which profiles your work your last semester in the program before graduation). I'm doing these dark metals, with different waves and movements, that are pops of green and cream. They have chains and hematite stones to give dimension.

Here is some of my work:

Cast silver and bronze ring.
It's two pieces!

Set enameled piece with bronze back piece.

Granulation earrings.

Head piece with chain vale.
Enamels, granulation, stone setting, love.

Back of piece.
How you've learned something new. Maybe the next time someone says they are a Metals major your eyes won't go crossed!

Ready for a Good Laugh?

Prepare yourself. Run to the bathroom real quick. Put your drink down.
This is a great story.... and a long one (but aren't all of mine?)

SO! Let's start with
Monday: I get verbally attacked by my professor who wants to blame an entire class project on me when I have completed my tasks.
Then Tuesday happens.... One of my summer classes gets dropped (a stress management, gen ed) and I can't find a replacement class that will fit in my summer or fall schedule. The same professor tells me that she isn't pleased with my work so she's going to give me an 'incomplete' for the semester and I just need to redo it this summer........ uh I'm taking three summer courses, working, and I don't know- taking a little break?!!!!
I cried for three straight hours- couldn't stop. Took medication to calm myself down before going into work. Which then made me all mellow and weird the whole night.
Today is the best... for real, go to the bathroom if you haven't.
So tomorrow is Pie Day in the art department on campus. We have like 30 pies coming in from students- yatta yatta. Of course I'm making a pie- a Derby pie, being as it's my favorite and it's Derby weekend! After staying in the studio until 9:45 working on a sculpture piece that's due tomorrow, I go to the grocery store to get stuff for the pie.... flour, chocolate chips, walnuts, pecans, oil, a brand new ($7) stainless steel pie server..... I go to my car after checking out and realize, I've locked my keys in my car and don't have a spare. Awesome. It's not 10:15pm. I call AAA and they arrive 30 minutes later. The sweet (drunk) old man unlocks my car... I'm exhausted, ready to bake this pie, take a shower, and go to sleep. So I get in my car and drive off. Wellllll when I get to my place, I realize I forgot the groceries sitting on the curb where I sat them as the man popped open my door. So I turn myself around to go back and get them. What do you think the chances of them still sitting there are? I think, they are still there or someone turned them back in. It's $25 worth of groceries. Nope. Someone jacked them. All gone. Waste of money. So I buy the groceries again! I get to baking- got the wrong chocolate chips, didn't need flour or oil, not enough walnuts. They pie is in the oven right now, so we'll see if it comes out.
At least today I can't stop laughing as apposed to yesterday where I couldn't stop crying.
It's nearly one am and I have class bright and early in the morning.

Hope you got a good laugh too! Happy Wednesday Thursday everyone.

250 or less, okay more

Story of my life is really extending a serious challenge. For one that's just getting back into the blogging world after a time away, this is ubber difficult. Blog for 31 days! My goodness. I am going to try so hard to do this. I want to. I need to. I can do it!!

Today's prompt: The story of you life 250 words or less.
I am a 22 year old gal, living in the outskirts of Lexington, Kentucky finishing up my last year of undergrad in Fine Arts. I am a photo and metalsmithing major. I grew up in Nicholasville, KY with an older sis and a pet pooch Daisy, a chocolate lab. My sister, Heather, has given me the greatest joys- my niece and nephew! I was the biggest daddy's girl growing up. That all changed with my parents got divorced a week before my 15th birthday. I am now the biggest moma's girl you'll ever know. I can't go a day without talking to her, and still occasionally sleep with her. I met my boyfriend of just over four years in high school. After graduation, a few bad relationships that help mold us into the people we are now, we reconnected. We've been together ever since. He is what keeps me sane, focuses, and motivated. I am a dreamer, a doer, a relaxer, and a thinker. I am pushing myself harder than ever to finish up college in the next seven months so we can move on with our lives... to marriage, a life together, and making dreams reality!

So that's probably not 25 words, but whatev!

Oh how Pinteresting!

It's a good day- it's a day I can reflect on my pins!
Linking up with The Vintage Apple!

The Vintage Apple

I've been wanting an anchor tattoo...

Sad to see Pam and Jim go through rough
times in life...
How beautiful is all this fiesta?!
Pantry around the fridge, how smart!

I want this!!!

I've been reciting this to myself for the
past month or so. So grateful for the
Lord's understanding.

So hilarious!

My biggest fall back- snacking.

Cookie dough buckeyes? Yes please..
Like I said, fall back.

You can check out all these pins and more here!!
